The so-called Lycra cotton (LYCRA) content is 95% or 97% cotton plus 5% or 3% Lycra. Lycra (LYCRA) is a trading name of INVISTA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DuPont in the United States. Because of its market arbitrariness in the spandex industry, Lycra is almost synonymous with all spandex yarns. Let’s take a look at the difference between Lycra cotton and cotton T shirts.
The difference between Lycra cotton and pure cotton:
First, the ratio is different
Cotton fabric: the ratio is 100% cotton fabric,
Lycra cotton fabric: Leica (10% or 5%) (a stretch fiber, the scientific name is spandex) + 90% or 95% cotton;
Second, flexibility is different
Pure cotton fabric: made of purely natural materials, pure cotton has no resilience without Lycra cotton, but it is very soft;
Lycra cotton fabric: outstanding stretch, for the knitwear, its multi-directional extension is determined by the fabric itself, Leica brings only the elasticity of stretching and recovery. The clothes made from Lycra cotton have no sense of urgency and can stretch freely.
Third, the difference in hygroscopicity
Cotton fabric: general hygroscopicity;
Lycra cotton fabric: It has a special chemical structure and is more hygroscopic.
Fourth, different heat resistance
Cotton fabric: not heat resistant;
Lycra cotton fabric: heat resistance is better.
Fifth, different alkali resistance
Cotton fabric: no alkali resistance;
Lycra cotton fabric: better alkali resistance.
Sixth, different hygiene
Cotton fabric: cotton fabric is relatively easy to absorb the gray layer in the air, too dirty effect is not good;
Lycra cotton fabric: Lycra fabric is relatively clean.
Unlike conventional elastic fibers, Lycra has a stretch of up to 500% and can be restored to its original state. That is to say, the fiber can be stretched very easily, but it can be attached to the surface of the human body after being recovered, and the binding force to the human body is small.
Lycra cotton fiber can be used with any fabric, including wool, hemp, silk, and cotton, to increase the fabric’s fit, elasticity and loose natural characteristics. And Lycra is different from most spandex yarns in that it has a special chemical structure and will not grow mildew in a wet and heat sealed space after wet water.
